Hyundai, Mazda, and now Subaru (and Toyota) prevail against the odds to provide us with three genuine sports-car options at under $30,000.
The exterior design features what Hyundai refers to as “Intersected Flow.” If that means the mouth of a Maserati, the headlights and stance of an Audi and a rear that resembles a Chevy Camaro/Hyundai Genesis Coupe mash-up, we’re in. Funky LED panels on the front and rear are used to display the vehicle’s condition, although we can think of a creative use or two for the highway tailgater.

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis will become the most powerful production Hyundai ever with the introduction of the sporty new 5.0 R-Spec model, which boasts a 5.0-liter V-8 with 429 bhp.
As predicted from the pronounced Red Bull logo on its door, Rhys Millen—drifter, stunt driver and Pikes Peak veteran—will be driving the new Hyundai Veloster in the upcoming 2011 U.S. Rallycross season. Rhys Millen Racing, Millen’s race shop, was tasked to building the rally-prepped Velosters. With Hyundai backing Rhys the past few years in his motorsports endeavors, this news came as no surprise. What was completely from left field was the announcement of a second Veloster rally car and its drivers: Robbie Maddison and Marcus Dodd.

The Genesis will get its mid-model facelift, but we’ll get to that later. More important is what’s under the updated car’s hood. Hyundai revealed last year that the 2012 Genesis sedan will be powered by an impressive 429-bhp 5.0-liter V-8 engine—that’s a big increase over the current 375-bhp 4.6-liter V-8—but these photos validate the rumors that it will also be mated to the company’s new 8-speed automatic transmission.
